We all have been waiting to hear the announcement of the new CEO of Microsoft and here we are with the most awaited news of the year so far, Hyderabad's son Satya Nadella has been chosen as only the third CEO of Microsoft Inc.
The whole has been waiting to hear it from the day when Steve Balmer, former CEO of Microsoft, announced his retirement and gave Microsoft about a year to find his replacement.
Microsoft released the news globally on Tuesday. This appointment as the new CEO of Microsoft has elevated Nadella to one of the highest-profile corporate jobs globally.
This decision is better in many ways for Microsoft. Firstly, Satya Nadella is an insider and knows the environment very well. Secondly, he is also an engineer. It seems that Microsoft's CEO have always been a bit extra in something. Bill Gates a programmer and the first executive and then came Steve Ballmer who ahs a great background in sales.
“Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together,” co-founder Gates, said in a statement announcing the appointment. “His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth,” he added.
Many of you wouldn't know that although Nadella was discussed as possible CEO since Steve Ballmer's announcement five months ago to retire, there was speculation that Microsoft was looking for an external candidate because it wanted a fresh approach to its business. But in the end Microsoft to not take any chances and handed the fiery sword into the hands of a person who has been with the company for almost 22- years.
He joined Microsoft in 1992, and led major projects including the company’s move to the cloud and the development of one of the largest cloud infrastructures in the world. Apart from being shaped by his family and his experiences, Nadella said in his email to Microsoft employees, “I am also defined by my curiosity and thirst for learning".
