"TRENDING NOW"- From Now On Will Be A Common Section On Facebook...........

A little while earlier Facebook followed Twitter by introducing "Hashtags'#'" function. And now they are doing the same thing by creating a different section as "Trending". Although this is stilll in the testing phase, but still it is a copy. This new section can be considered as an expriment which is being done by Facebook to just go up a little.

It was likely to happen as any topic which ids hashtagged means it is popular as like trending. The hashtags were introduced last month and now the "trending topics section"
which will show the hash tag posts. This section will appear on the top right-hand side beside the news feeds. This section is pretty much similar to Twitter's "Trend Box" which showcases topics, including hashtags, which enumerates the popular and emerging issues.

According to a recent report by Wall Street Journal, Facebook is now planning to roll out the Trending Topics and the section will be right on your homepage, at the top right corner. The spokeswoman also added “We are running a small test of a unit on News Feed,” she said. “Right now it only available to a small percentage of US users and it is still in the early stages of development.”

Like Twitter, Facebook’s trending section will show popular hashtags and topics that are generating a lot of conversation. For example, Facebook’s algorithm would group all public conversations mentioning #MLK and “Martin Luther,” under one topic in the trending section, such as “Martin Luther King, Jr.” According to the WSJ report.

But by doing this, Facebook has put itself into quite a muddle. To implemnt this effectively, Facebook will have to let go of the privacy settings. Many of the facebook user's just like to keep some of their views, photos, comments etc. to themselves. They do not want the world to know about it. So Facebook will have to make a change in the privacy settings so that everybody can see the topics which are hashtagged.

This new section will be mopre beneficial for Brands, news publishers, etc, who will be able to start a new topic as trend and gain some visibility. Also if the trending section is only going to show sponsored posts or posts by page, people might not feel the need to click on them at all.

When it comes to ‘Trends’ Facebook will have to work very hard to ensure that its able to provide meaningful content, not just sponsored stories or stories by pages. For that it will have make some changes to privacy settings for users. That might go down so well.
