HURRAH!!! TRAI Lowers the ceiling National Roaming charges from May 1st...

Great for all mobile users as from May 1 , all the people outside their home circles will be able to make calls and send messages at a much lower cost then before.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has slashed the ceiling tariffs for national roaming and has asked the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to avail the users with ''Special Roaming Tariff Plans'' from the 1st of May this year. "The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's decision on Thursday, though, may slightly hurt revenues of top carriers Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India that account for most of those using roaming services — a view that sharply drove down share prices of the first two, listed in the country.''[IndiaTimes]

The changes in the call rates and the SMS rates are quite significant and will sooth the people despite of the rising expenses. The local call rates will only be charged a maximum of 80 paise/min lowered from 1 rupee/min while the local SMS cost 25 paise/sms instead of 1 rupee. As per the roaming outgoing calls are concerned the telecom operator can only charge us a maximum of 1.15 rupees/min reduced from 1.50 rupees/minute.

For the incoming roaming calls, the rates have been lowered from 75 paise/min to at most 45 paise/min. The roaming SMS will cost 38 paise/sms instead of 1.50 rupees which a hell lot more than what it will be.

On the other hand, as a downside for some consumers, the regulator has removed the roaming tariff plan, RTP and RTP-FR, under which the user paid the same charges as his home circle or service area while in roaming. But instead of those the special tariff plans will allow us to have free incoming calls for a fixed amount which will be paid at the start of the plan.

All-in-all the move or decision, whatever you call it, is like a boon for all the mobile users.......
